33 people checked, 2 PMDs and 3 bicycles impounded in 1 day by police and LTA in Punggol
Two personal mobility devices (PMDs) and three bicycles were impounded by police and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) in Punggol on Sept 7.
Officers from Punggol Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC) and LTA conducted a joint operation at various locations to deter illegal activities, including theft and the use of illegally modified PMDs and e-bikes.
The police conducted proactive checks on 33 people while LTA also detected several offences under the Active Mobility Act 2017.
The offences included riding a non-compliant PMD on a shared path and public road, and riding a bicycle without mandatory handbrakes on a park connector.
Anyone found to be using a non-LTA approved PMD can be fined up to $10,000, jailed up to six months or both.
Those who modify an LTA-approved PMD to become non-compliant and use it on a public path can be fined up to $20,000, jailed up to two years or both.
Punggol NPC said on Facebook that it will continue to work closely with other law enforcement agencies to clamp down on illegal activities.
