3 women and 1 man arrested for online sale of counterfeit goods, items worth over $99k seized
Three women and one man, aged between 34 and 59, have been arrested for their suspected involvement in the online sale of counterfeit goods.
The police said that between July 24 and Aug 15, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department conducted a series of raids at multiple locations including Woodlands Close, Woodlands Street 13, Woodlands Avenue 6 and Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3.
During the operations, officers seized more than 1,100 pieces of purported trademark-infringing goods comprising luxury bags, wallets, sunglasses, pouches, scarves and brooches.
The estimated street value of the seized items is more than $99,000.
Police investigations are ongoing.
Under the Trade Marks Act 1998, the offence of possession of goods with falsely applied trademarks for the purpose of trade carries a fine of up to $100,000, an imprisonment term of up to five years, or both.
The police said they take a serious view of intellectual property rights infringement.
The distribution and sale of counterfeit goods are serious offences, they reminded, adding: "The police will not hesitate to take tough action against perpetrators who profit at the expense of legitimate businesses and consumers."
