# 3 taken to hospital after Tower Transit bus rear-ends SBS Transit bus in Yishun chain collision

Three people were taken to hospital after a three-bus chain collision along Yishun Avenue 2 on Oct 15 that left an SBS Transit bus mounted on the kerb.

The accident involved a Tower Transit service 853 bus and two SBS Transit buses on services 852 and 851.

In a Facebook statement at 4.14pm, Tower Transit said the accident occurred at about 3.05pm at the bus stop near Block 790 Yishun Avenue 2.

According to the operator, its service 853 bus rear-ended a service 852 bus, causing a chain collision with a service 851 bus.

A video shared by Stomper Daniyal, who passed by the scene at about 3.34pm, showed an SBS Transit bus mounted on the kerb with extensive damage to its rear.

Several windows appeared to have been shattered, with broken glass and debris strewn across the road.

Another SBS Transit bus was seen nearby, while three ambulances were spotted at the scene.

In response to Stomp queries, the police said they were alerted to the accident at about 3pm. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted at about 3.05pm.

SCDF conveyed a 75-year-old male passenger and two female passengers, aged 48 and 52, conscious to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

Another two people were assessed for minor injuries but declined to be taken to hospital.

“A 35-year-old male bus driver is assisting with investigations,” a police spokesperson said.

SBS Transit spokesperson Mrs Grace Wu confirmed that its service 852 bus was rear-ended by the service 853 bus as it approached the bus stop, causing it to collide with the service 851 bus in front and mount the kerb.

She said five passengers on board service 852 were injured, including the three who were taken to hospital.

“Our team was at the hospital to offer our care and support,” Mrs Wu said.

SBS Transit has since contacted two of the hospitalised passengers and is trying to reach the third to check on their well-being and offer assistance.

No injuries were reported on service 851, and the bus captains of both SBS Transit buses were unhurt.

Passengers who were not injured were transferred to other buses to continue their journeys.

Tower Transit initially said six passengers had reported injuries.

In an update at 4.55pm, the operator confirmed that three people had been taken to hospital.

“We’re really sorry for the hurt and inconvenience this has caused them and other road users,” it said.

Tower Transit added that it was working closely with the Traffic Police, Land Transport Authority and SBS Transit to support investigations.

The operator said the road remained passable to traffic.

Passengers who were on any of the affected buses, or their family members, can contact Tower Transit at 1800 248 0950 or feedback@towertransit.sg.

Police investigations are ongoing.
