The police are investigating the circumstances behind three bicycles that were left on a major road in Queenstown to block traffic.

A photo of the incident posted by Facebook user Geraldine Lim on Dec 20 shows the line of bicycles parked on Commonwealth Avenue. Each bicycle is parked on a lane of the three-lane road, cutting across it and restricting access.

The image was taken around 2am that day, according to the post. The bikes appear to be owned by various bicycle-sharing firms.

WTF! Such a dangerous prank! This was along Commonwealth Ave, by Queens Condo, near Stirling Rd turn in, right in front...

Calling the act a "dangerous prank", Ms Lim said in the post that the bicycles had caused a private-hire car driver to brake hard and suddenly, causing his passengers to spill their takeaway food all over the car's interior.

The driver later moved two of the bicycles from the road, she said.

"But it was too late to stop a taxi from slamming into the last bicycle," she added.

Ms Lim's post, published at 4.38am, has since been shared more than 900 times, as at 6.15pm, and made its way to other social media channels.

"This is not a prank… this is sabotaging that might cost (a) life," a Facebook user commented.

In response to queries, the police said that a report had been lodged.
