3 arrested after Circuit Road unit splashed with brown paint, debtor's note left behind
Three men, aged between 20 and 27, were arrested on Oct 7 for their suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Circuit Road.
The police said they were alerted to the case on Oct 5, at around 2.40am.
The unit had been splashed with brown paint and a debtor's note had been left behind.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identities of the three men and arrested them.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the three men are believed to be involved in other cases of loanshark harassment island-wide.
Three mobile phones were seized as case exhibits.
Two men, aged 20 and 26, will be charged in court on Oct 8 under the Moneylenders Act 2008.
Police investigations are ongoing for the remaining 27-year-old man.
For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, with up to five years in jail and up to six strokes of the cane.
The police said they have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities and added: "Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance and disruption to public safety and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law."
Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not work with or assist them in any way. Call the police at '999' if they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in loansharking activities.
