Land Transport Authority (LTA) enforement officers booked 22 drivers on July 11 at Changi Airport and Gardens by the Bay for providing illegal ride-hailing services within Singapore, and to and from Malaysia.

Their vehicles were also impounded, said LTA in a social media post on July 12

The officers were acting on tip-offs from the National Private Hire Vehicles Association (NPHV) and members of public.

LTA said: "Commuters should avoid using such illegal services. They lack proper insurance and pose safety risks to passengers."

Senior Minister of State for Transport Sun Xueling posted on Facebook: "Foreign-registered vehicles providing illegal private-hire car services harm the livelihoods of our local taxi and private hire car drivers."

LTA will continue to take firm action against illegal point-to-point services, including cross-border transport services, that do not have a valid Public Service Vehicle Licence.

NPHVA also posted on social media: "These illegal services break the law but also eat into the earnings of law-abiding, licensed drivers, creating an unfair playing field for those who follow the rules.

"NPHVA has consistently raised this issue and will continue working closely with LTA. We call on drivers to continue to report any suspected illegal P2P services."

Ms Sun added: "LTA will increase the coverage and frequency of our enforcement actions against such illegal private hire car services. We will not hesitate to press for heavier fines, or to impound or forfeit these foreign-registered vehicles."

Offenders may face up to $3,000 fines and/or six-months' imprisonment.
