2 men arrested for separate cases of loanshark harassment at Chai Chee Road flats
Two men, aged 58 and 28, were arrested on Dec 11 for their suspected involvement in two separate cases of loanshark harassment.
The first case on Dec 8 involved a residential unit along Chai Chee Road, where the main door was splashed with red paint and a debtor's note was left behind.
The second case on Dec 10 involved another residential unit along Chai Chee Road, where the main door was secured with two bicycle locks and a debtor's note was left behind.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identities of the two men and arrested them.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the 28-year-old man is believed to be involved in several similar cases of loanshark harassment.
One mobile phone, one masking tape, one black marker and a notebook were seized as case exhibits.

Both men will be charged in court on Dec 12 under the Moneylenders Act 2008.
For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, with up to five years in jail and up to six strokes of the cane.
The police said they have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities and added: "Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance and disruption to public safety and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law."
Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not work with or assist them in any way. Call the police at '999' if they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in loansharking activities.
