2 flats splashed with black paint in Bendemeer, 2 women arrested for loanshark harassment

Two women, aged 30 and 33, were arrested for their suspected involvement in loanshark harassment at Bendemeer Road.

The police were alerted on Aug 23 at about 2.15pm after the main gates and doors of two flats were splashed with black paint.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Central Police Division and Police Operations Command Centre established the identities of the women and arrested them within one hour of the report.

Six cans of paint, two helmets, one scarf, one pair of gloves, one penknife and one marker were seized as case exhibits.

The duo will be charged in court on Aug 25 under the Moneylenders Act 2008.

For first-time offenders, loanshark harassment carries a fine of between $5,000 and $50,000 with imprisonment of up to five years and caning of up to six strokes.

Caning can only be imposed on male offenders below 50 years old.
