2 fires in 9th-storey flats in 1 morning: 1 rescued in Tampines, about 35 evacuated in Bukit Merah
Two fires broke out in Singapore on the morning of Sept 10, one in Tampines and the other in Bukit Merah.
Stomper Chris shared a video of smoke rising out of a window at Block 885 Tampines Street 83 and several Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) vehicles at the scene.
In response to a Stomp query, the SCDF said it was alerted to the fire at about 8.55am.
One person had evacuated from the flat before SCDF's arrival while another was rescued from the kitchen by firefighters.
Both were assessed by a paramedic for smoke inhalation and burn injuries, and taken to Singapore General Hospital.
The fire involving a section of the living room in a ninth-storey flat was extinguished using a water jet.
SCDF responded to the other fire on the same morning at Block 104 Jalan Bukit Merah at about 11:20am.
Two people had evacuated from the unit before SCDF's arrival, said SCDF in a Facebook post.
About 35 residents from the 9th to the 11th floor were evacuated by SCDF as a precautionary measure.
The fire, which involved a bedroom in a ninth-storey flat, was extinguished by firefighters using a water jet. As a result of the fire, the rest of the residential unit also sustained heat and smoke damage.
Six persons from neighbouring units were assessed by paramedics for smoke inhalation and taken to Singapore General Hospital.
The causes of both fires are under investigation.
