2 dead in second-storey flat fire in Toa Payoh
Two people died in a fire at Block 173 Lorong 1 Toa Payoh on the evening of July 22.
Videos of the fire were posted online.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a Facebook post it responded to the fire at about 7.30pm.
Upon arrival, the living room of a second-storey flat was on fire.
Firefighters entered the smoke-filled unit and extinguished the fire with a water jet.
Inside the flat, they found two people who were unresponsive and immediately carried them out.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic.
SCDF added that three people from neighbouring flats were assessed for smoke inhalation and taken to Singapore General Hospital.
Facebook user Rina Kelley posted at 8.54pm that people who were evacuated from the block were still outside.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
