13 people taken to hospital after accident involving two buses and car in Tampines
Thirteen people were taken to hospital after an accident involving two buses and a car in Tampines on Aug 5.
Stompers Fiona, Francis and Lalit came across the "major accident" at the junction of Tampines Avenue 2 and Tampines Avenue 7.
In a video taken from Francis's in-car camera, one bus appears to have hit the rear of the other, causing a panel to come dislodged.
Lalit shared photos that showed the extent of the damage to the vehicles.
The rear window on one of the bus's upper decks was shattered, leaving the last row of passenger seats exposed.
The front-facing window on the upper deck of the other bus was also cracked.
"It seems the first seat on top is a very unsafe seat to sit in as the driver will always try to avoid a front-on collision by sideswiping," he said.
"The front seat at the top left area was badly damaged.
"The bus behind did not have many passengers."
Regarding the aftermath of the accident, Fiona said: "I was stuck in that jam for 20 minutes."
In photos shared by the Stomper, two SBS Transit double-decker buses were at the traffic junction with their display signs turned off.
Police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers were at the scene.
In response to a Stomp query, the police said they were alerted to the accident along Tampines Avenue 7 towards Tampines Avenue 12 at about 10.15am.
"A 69-year-old male bus driver and 12 bus passengers, aged between 30 and 69, were conveyed conscious to the hospital," a police spokesperson said.
The SCDF said it was alerted to the accident at 10.20am and took five people to Changi General Hospital and eight people to Sengkang General Hospital.
In a post on X at 1.06pm, the Land Transport Authority advised motorists to avoid the second and third lanes.
SBS Transit spokesperson Mrs Grace Wu told Stomp: "We are very sorry that this has happened and our topmost priority is the well-being of our 12 passengers who were injured and conveyed conscious to the hospitals for treatment.
"Our teams were also at the hospitals earlier today to extend our care and support and to provide them with assistance.
"So far, 10 passengers, as well as our bus captain, received outpatient treatment while two have been warded.
"We will continue to render support to them and do wish them a full and speedy recovery.
"In the meantime, we are assisting the police in their investigations."
Police investigations are ongoing.
