Alleged hit-and-run in Geylang leaves cat bleeding from mouth
A cat was hit by a car along Lorong 1 Geylang in the early hours of July 27.
In response to a Stomp query, the police said they were alerted to the accident at 2.50am.
Stomper Daniel alerted Stomp to the incident and shared that he was cycling home when he spotted a visibly distressed driver standing next to a blue Nissan car in the middle of the road.
"An animal was lying in front of his vehicle with blood oozing from the mouth," the Stomper said. "The driver was attempting to divert traffic away from the scene."
"I immediately headed to ask if he had injured the cat, to which he responded he did not and the culprit had sped away upon knocking the feline. He said that it was a white seven-seater Nissan."
The driver told Daniel he had contacted the National Parks Board (NParks). The cyclist then assisted by calling the police and taking over the traffic diversion so the man could wait for the authorities.
"NParks attendants arrived before the police and examined the feline to be severely injured but still alive," Daniel said.
"The driver, very upset by now and almost in tears, pleaded with the attendants to save the cat and that he would be willing to pay any amount at his expense.
The attendants assured him it would be taken care of, which was comforting to him.
The cat was then promptly taken away and the police arrived shortly after.
"When they learned I had not witnessed the hit-and-run, they told me I could go home and continued with getting a statement from the driver," the Stomper recounted.
He added that he hopes the perpetrator will be brought to justice.
Stomp has contacted NParks for more information.
Police investigations are ongoing.
