# Woman claims ‘violent’ husband shook 2-month-old son ‘vigorously’ when he cries, pushed child when he urinated on him

A woman has taken to Reddit to share her apparent separation from her husband over his violent behaviour towards their young son, including allegedly shaking the child, drawing comparisons to the case of Trevor Neo — who died from his parents’ abuse at eight months old.

Redditor @56redditor65 said in a post on Oct 23 titled “Trevor Neo - How it almost happened to me” that she is fighting the father’s attempts to get custody of the boy, who is now one and a half years old.

According to the Reddit user, she got pregnant three months after meeting the man, got married within six months, and separated when the baby was three months old.

“The ex-husband of mine has anger issues,” she says in her post, although they cannot be legally divorced as they have not been married for three years.

In the post, the Redditor alleges that the man shook their child “vigorously” when he was two months old because the baby kept crying as he could not sleep.

“This 42-year-old abuser will say he is a ‘first-time parent’ and frustrated, hence it is excusable behaviour,” she explains.

Recounting another incident which happened close to the “shaking” incident, the Redditor says the man was furious when the baby urinated on him. Upon realising this, the man purportedly pushed the child, left him on the table, and called him “crazy”, “shen jing bing” (mentally unsound in Mandarin), and asked, “What the hell do you want?”.

She also accuses the man of physically abusing her when she was four months pregnant, purportedly pushing her when he was drunk and shouting vulgarities. She adds that he tried to snatch her phone when she attempted to call the police and blocked the door to prevent her escaping.

The user says she managed to leave when he had to throw up and ended up hiding next to a dustbin in the rain.

“I had to leave him to protect my three-month-old son,” she says.

The user shares in her post that she has been fighting a legal battle for a year, but says she is unable to convince the court that her son is in danger as there is no visible harm on him.

She also expresses displeasure at Family Service Centre (FSC), claiming that they “refuse to recognise that he was a danger to (her) infant (be)cause there was no harm inflicted”, adding that the FSC has been “forcing (her) to continue contact between my boy and this abuser”.

She says in response to a comment: “I am fighting against FSC and the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) who are forcing me to allow contact with the abuser. I will do whatever it takes to shield my boy. And I mean whatever it takes.”

## Netizens offer mother support and advice

The Reddit post received over 720 upvotes and 130 comments, with many users offering support and advice.

“I really hope your poor innocent boy has a good life and is not affected terribly by all this,” said a Redditor.

“As much as you are struggling right now, I know that your baby must look at you and see only strength and warmth and protection and love because you will never ever let him feel anything else. I choose to believe that you both will come out of this okay,” another said.

“I just want to really applaud you for having the courage to leave and to fight. Some people are so beaten down that they don’t even have the capacity to escape. I hope someday you will no longer need to survive but instead have the space to rest, thrive and grow,” said yet another netizen.

Several netizens, however, pointed out that the boy’s father had a right of access unless there was enough evidence for the court to intervene.

“You need to prove that the father is abusive first. Only the courts have the authority to judge that. The law needs to balance the victim’s POV against the likelihood of false accusations,” said a Redditor.

“Even if MSF, AWARE, the court believes the OP, they also need to do their due diligence and do an investigation with evidence to cut off access to the kid. I mean, if OP’s ex did the reverse and claimed that OP is a danger to the kid and they cut off access to OP without any investigation, she would be flipping. I would suggest that in the meantime, do not fight access to the kid until the courts have decided but ask for supervised access with MSF staff present,” another said.
