A video of an elderly man slotting flyers into unlocked letterboxes at an HDB void deck went viral, with netizens joking that he could be an "ex-deck shuffler".

The video was posted by TikTok user @gearbong99 on Feb 23, garnering over 338,000 views and 2,400 likes.

In the 24-second clip, a man in a yellow shirt is seen walking towards the letterboxes with a stack of flyers in hand, running a stick-like object across the openings, seemingly to check which ones were unlocked.

When an opening gives way, he uses the stick to slot two flyers into each letterbox, moving both hands swiftly across the panel.

He repeats the process over seven columns of letterboxes.

"If you forgot to lock your mailbox," the on-screen caption read.

'They also have to make a living': Netizens sympathise with man

Some netizens joked that the man was skilled and could be an "ex-deck shuffler".

Several recalled receiving flyers in their letterboxes, saying there was "no point" in locking them, while others suggested that the flyers could be recycled.

Many netizens, however, sympathised with the man, saying that "they also have to make a living".

"Once I noticed the old folks doing this, I'm kinda ok with it. Annoying but not really a big deal," one user commented.

Another netizen, who identified themselves as a courier, explained that these situations are often unavoidable.

"Sometimes courier is [sic] unable to send directly to reception if they are not in or available. And us couriers don't have the keys, would you prefer letterbox [sic] or doorstep?" the user asked.
