TikToker's rant over sliced fruit size at Republic Polytechnic goes viral: 'My salmon sashimi is thicker'
A TikToker's rant about the size of the fruit he purchased at Republic Polytechnic has gone viral, leaving netizens amused and wondering how much he paid for the sample-size portions.
"What the hell is this," says @iamkikidarling in the one-minute clip posted on Feb 10. "I ordered papaya," he adds, displaying a tiny piece of fruit in a plastic bag. He then places the sliced papaya next to his index finger before obscuring it completely with two fingers.
Next, he shows a slice of watermelon and a woman says off-camera: "Show the honeydew, bro." He obliges, snorting as the video ends.
The post has garnered at least 202,000 views, 1,200 reactions and 648 comments.
Netizens were largely bemused by the TikToker's experience. "They (are) selling you concepts of the fruit." said one. "Fine dining fruits edition," said another.
Iamkikidarling does not specify how much he paid for the fruit, despite queries from multiple users. Several comments suggest the price was 50 cents each.
"Budget 2026," commented a netizen in jest. "You just bought the fruit test kit," another said.
Some netizens marvelled at the skill of the fruit seller at being able to slice the fruit so thinly. "The uncle used to be sashimi chef," said one.
Another declared: "My salmon sashimi at genki sushi is thicker than that watermelon slice."
Not everyone found the post funny. "Not nice for them to shortchange students," remarked a commenter.
"OMG thank YOUUUUU for calling it out. That's why I stopped buying," said another.
Stomp has reached out to the original poster and to Republic Polytechnic for comment.
