# Pregnant wife foots gynae bills as husband ‘struggled financially’, then finds out he’s ‘too close’ to female colleague

*A mother-of-one who runs TikTok account @the.gentle.mile recalls working while pregnant, paying her own gynae bills and feeling alone amid marital struggles.*

A woman has opened up about the loneliness she experienced during her pregnancy, recalling how she worked long hours, paid her own gynaecological bills and struggled with trust issues in her marriage.

In a TikTok post shared on Oct 24, @the.gentle.mile said she had imagined pregnancy as nine months filled with excitement, love and beautiful memories. Instead, she described it as one of the loneliest periods of her life.

The post has since garnered about 22,000 views and 530 likes.

## Suspected infidelity left her overwhelmed

The woman said that just days after discovering she was pregnant, she became concerned about her then-husband’s closeness with someone she called a “bar lady”, who is later suggested to be his colleague.

She recounted seeing video calls and conversations between them, and said her then-husband later deleted the pair’s WhatsApp messages.

He explained to the female colleague that “it wouldn’t look nice if someone saw them”.

He told his wife that he had gone out with friends one night, and she did not hear from him throughout the evening.

Later, she discovered that he “somehow had time” to video call his female colleague but did not send “even one text” to his then-pregnant wife.

She also recalled him receiving a birthday cake from the same colleague, delivered to their doorstep.

When she asked her then-husband to address the situation with the colleague present, he responded: “What if she quits? Who will suffer?”

The woman said the emotional strain became overwhelming, and she fainted and ended up in the emergency ward at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH).

## Worked while pregnant to support her baby

Despite her struggles, the woman said she continued working and took on a weekend side hustle. Additionally, she even helped her husband with delivering durians, sometimes until 11pm.

She also paid for her own gynaecological check-ups after he told her he was struggling financially.

“I was just thankful I still had my job and could afford to take care of my baby,” she said.

She recalled collapsing again during her pregnancy and was admitted to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH). While warded, she heard another mother nearby crying after losing her baby.

Holding her tummy, she said she cried and told her unborn son: “Thank you for staying with me, my boy. We will live. We will get through this together.”

## ‘I just wished someone had taken care of me too’

The woman said she sometimes envied mothers with loving and supportive partners, recalling how she would sit alone to eat and cry quietly.

“I wasn’t strong. I was just left with no other choice but to be strong,” she added.

In her post’s caption, she wrote: “And sometimes, I still wish someone had taken care of me too...even just a little.”

She said she regretted her marriage but had never regretted becoming a mother to her son, who is now three.

“I regret the marriage. But not for a single second have I ever regretted becoming a mum,” she wrote.

## Words of encouragement from netizens

The post drew supportive comments, with some viewers sharing similar experiences and others praising her resilience.

One commenter shared that their own mother had gone through pregnancy alone, adding that they only learnt about it when they were older.

“My mom go through similar stuff with you, she had to go through the pregnancy alone and even give birth alone :( and I just knew about it when I was old enough.

“I’m no longer angry with my dad, I’m just very disappointed and will never forgive him,” shared the commenter.

Many praised the woman for her courage, assuring her that her son is lucky to have her in his life.

One such TikTok user wrote: “Your son gonna look up to you how strong his mummy is.”

Another said: “Dear mama, (your) boy is blessed to have you.”
