# Migrant worker gives pair a lift at 12am after 30 mins with no PHV: ‘He agreed without hesitation’

After failing to book a private-hire ride for 30 minutes, two friends decided to hitch a ride with a migrant worker, sitting on the back of his vehicle.

On Nov 1, TikTok user @cafeswithrich, shared a short video documenting the ride, with an on-screen caption reading: “This video really goes to show Singapore’s migrant workers have the biggest hearts.”

## ‘He agreed without hesitation’

The clip shows the user, who goes by Richelle, approaching the worker in his lorry before she and her friend hop onto the back as he drives off.

In the caption, the 23-year-old student wrote that they had been unable to book a ride on any of the ride-hailing platforms for 30 minutes as it was around midnight and in an “ulu place”.

They had even approached a few Singaporeans for a lift to a more visible location, but “to no avail”.

At around midnight, they spotted the worker preparing to leave and asked if he could drop them off at a nearby spot where they could get transport. He “agreed without hesitation”, with cafeswithrich describing him as the “kindest”.

The on-screen caption notes that the worker was sleeping at East Coast Park ahead of his 3am shift.

Sharing their brief conversation with him, Richelle says he told them that this sleeping schedule was normal for him. He gets weekends off only after completing an eight-hour shift.

She also says that the worker was returning to India to visit his family for a month and could not wait for the trip.

“He told me he can’t describe the agony and heartbreak when he leaves for work again,” she writes.

Speaking to Stomp, Richelle said she and her friend were stranded in a deserted part of East Coast Park.

She said they had approached two other locals for a lift, but both were “quite hesitant” and declined due to personal commitments.

The pair encountered the worker at around 12.30am, and he “eagerly agreed” to help before dropping them off at a nearby taxi pick-up point.

## ‘That’s very kind of him’: Netizens

The video has drawn over 42,000 views and dozens of comments.

Some asked the TikToker if she had compensated him for his time.

“Did you give him some cash as a courtesy?” asked one user. “I hope you paid him for his time and labour,” said another.

However, many netizens were touched by the interaction and praised the worker for his kindness.

“That’s very kind of him,” one comment read, while another described the gesture as “sweet”.
