A man who installed a Wi-Fi camera to secretly film his 19-year-old stepdaughter showering was sentenced to nine months’ jail.

The 43-year-old Singaporean had initially discovered footage of his stepdaughter showering after he and his wife installed a camera in the toilet to monitor their six-year-old child, who had swallowed bleach while in the toilet.

The man, who faced one charge of voyeurism, had developed sexual fantasies about his stepdaughter and began secretly filming her.

The victim was between 19 and 20 years old at the time of the offences. A gag order has been put in place to protect the victim’s identity.

According to court documents, the man married the victim’s mother in 2014, and the couple had two children together. The victim was born from her mother’s previous marriage.

The victim had originally lived overseas before returning to Singapore in 2023 to pursue her studies. She moved in with the man’s family but later decided not to pursue further education and found work at a remittance business.

Sometime in or before May 2024, the man and his wife discovered that their six-year-old child had swallowed bleach in the toilet of the master bedroom. The child reportedly did so accidentally while unsupervised.

To ensure the child’s safety, the couple decided to install a camera in the toilet to monitor the child’s activities. The camera was programmed to start recording only when the man was asleep.

## Man installs hidden camera, secretly films stepdaughter

In September 2024, the victim showered in the master bedroom’s toilet while the man was taking a nap. He later discovered that the camera had captured footage of her showering.

Although he informed his wife about the footage and deleted the video, he subsequently developed sexual fantasies about his stepdaughter and wanted to see her naked.

The man then bought a Wi-Fi camera and concealed it behind the mesh covering of a wall casing in the common toilet to secretly film his stepdaughter showering.

Once she started showering, the man would open a mobile application on his handphone to view a live feed of her, while recording the victim being fully nude.

When she finished showering, he would remove the camera and view the footage at least once before deleting it to avoid detection.

In December 2024, he switched to using a mobile phone to film the victim as he was dissatisfied with the quality of the footage from the Wi-Fi camera.

## Filmed stepdaughter at least 6 times

On July 12, 2025, the victim discovered the phone hidden in the common toilet and told her mother that she had been secretly filmed. A police report was filed the next day.

Investigations revealed that the man had filmed his stepdaughter without her permission at least six times between September 2024 and July 2025.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the man said during mitigation that he had obtained forgiveness from the victim and his family. He added that he regretted his actions and hoped to live with his family after his release from prison.
