# ‘It was a sh*tshow’: Traveller complains about carpeted floors, multiple flights departing from same gate at Changi Airport

A traveller has taken issue with several aspects of her experience at Changi Airport, pointing to carpeted floors, multiple flights departing from the same gate, and other supposed shortcomings.

In an X post on Oct 9, user @neflorious complained about the carpeted floors at the airport, stating: “Now which stupid f*ck decided to put down CARPET at the Singapore airport”.

The post drew a wave of criticism from netizens.

However, neflorious — who goes by Flo — doubled down on her complaint, listing several other reasons for what she described as a “f*cked-up experience” at Changi Airport.

## Netizens defend Changi Airport

Following her initial post criticising Changi Airport’s carpeted floors, Flo faced backlash from netizens, many of whom came to the airport’s defence.

Many netizens pointed out that Changi Airport’s carpeted floors help muffle the noise of luggage wheels rolling across the ground.

According to the Changi Airport Group (CAG) website, carpeted flooring reduces noise from footsteps and rolling luggage, creating a quieter environment.

Factors such as durability, ease of maintenance and cleaning, cost, and suitability for wheeled luggage are also considered when selecting flooring for different areas.

“It’s why Singapore is regularly voted the best airport in the world because it’s quiet and relaxing,” a user wrote.

Others said they had been travelling through Changi Airport for years without encountering any issues.

“Seems like a you problem,” one pointed out.

Some commenters also said that she could use a trolley to transport her luggage around the airport instead.

Despite the backlash, Flo stood by her criticism, declaring in another post on the same day: “Officially crowning Singapore the most incompetent airport I’ve ever witnessed.”

## ‘Officially crowning Singapore the most incompetent airport’:

In an Oct 12 post, Flo elaborated on her complaints, listing several other issues that contributed to what she described as a “f**ked-up experience” at Changi Airport.

Flo’s “main” gripe was with how security checks were conducted at the boarding gate — she claimed that multiple flights were scheduled to depart from the same gate “at the same time”.

Flo also claimed in her post that three to four flights were boarding at the same time, with hundreds of passengers having to go through just two open security lanes.

“Then they start shuffling around people to a third lane just to cut it off in the middle and send the people who were moving back to the end of the line (where new people had accumulated),” she said.

As the flights began making their “last call one after the other”, Flo claimed that staff started panicking and shouting for passengers whose flights were about to depart to step forward.

“It was a sh*tshow,” she wrote.

## ‘The pride and joy of my people don’t reside in airport logistics’: Traveller hits back at commenters

Flo also questioned the airport’s choice of carpeted flooring, which presumably made it harder to drag her trolley, arguing that other materials could be “both quiet and sleek”. She added that using a trolley was an unnecessary extra step when her luggage already had wheels.

Additionally, Flo bemoaned the supposed lack of convenience stores selling snacks, but praised the orange juice from the “distributors” — likely referring to vending machines — as “elite”.

She also took issue with security checks being conducted at the boarding gate, saying passengers had to discard liquids they purchased after checking in.

Flo concluded by offering “a little insight” into her experience, noting that she had travelled to at least 20 countries in the past two years and seen her “fair share” of airports.

She added that she had arrived at Changi Airport 2.5 hours before her flight.

Responding to suggestions and feedback about her luggage, Flo wrote: “My luggage rolls well, and I already own a Rimowa, but thank you for the ads.”

Flo then compared two of “her” airports — Dubai International Airport and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport — describing the one in the United Arab Emirates as “not sht” and the one in France as “sht”.

However, she declared that “the pride and joy of my people don’t reside in airport logistics”, likely responding to netizens who slammed her initial post.

Changi Airport was named the world’s best airport in 2026 by London-based research Skytrax for the second consecutive year, marking its 14th win.

Stomp has reached out to Flo and CAG for comment.

## Netizens divided

While some netizens continued to disagree with Flo’s criticisms of Changi Airport, others said that travellers’ experiences ultimately vary from person to person.

“Singapore is a major flight hub, several flights departing at the same time is normal,” a commenter said, adding that such situations are common at other major airports.

“Honestly, I’ve never had a bad experience flying out of Changi Airport,” one wrote.

Others took a more neutral stance, noting that experiences at the airport can vary between travellers.

One commenter said they had “completely opposite experiences” at Changi Airport, adding that people were entitled to their own opinions based on their individual experiences.

“As a proud-of-our-airport Singaporean, I guess it boils down to our individual experiences and it’s okay to not conform with the majority,” a user said.
