A Grab delivery rider was left unsettled after he accepted a food order to a unit at Bukit Merah, only to find it abandoned and padlocked from the outside.

Nur Alfian, 34, told Stomp that he had received a Din Tai Fung order to unit 04-04 at Depot Lane on Jan 24 at about 4pm, and arrived at the address at 5.30pm.

However, upon reaching the area, he found the industrial estate deserted. The site had been vacated by the fourth quarter of 2025 to make way for housing, The Straits Times reported in June 2025.

While at the carpark, Mr Alfian encountered an elderly man who told him there was no one in the building.

"Why you come here? The building no more people already," the man had told Mr Alfian.

Mr Alfian then proceeded to the fourth floor, where he discovered that the unit was padlocked from the outside.

He placed the food on a ledge and sent photos of the delivery to the customer via the app to mark the delivery as completed, but received no response.

No response from customer

In a TikTok video he posted about the eerie encounter, Mr Alfian pans across an empty corridor, remarking that the "whole stretch is already abandoned".

He told Stomp that this was the first time he had encountered such a situation in his 10 months working as a Grab delivery rider.

While customers occasionally enter the wrong address, he said they would rectify the mistake quickly — which did not happen in this case.

"Normally if I send wrong address, Grab would contact me," he said, adding that he received no feedback from Grab regarding this order.

The delivery was also paid through contactless payment, resulting in no loss to the rider.

"Sometimes people order Grab, I don't know if they're pranking me. I don't know what's their intention of doing this," he said.

Netizens offer possible explanations

The TikTok post has since garnered more than 38,200 views, with many netizens expressing unease in the comments.

"Bro, you are not the first one. Go check out the history of 04-04… I must say you are very lucky," one wrote, without elaborating further.

Several users urged him to be cautious, with some suggesting he contact the authorities.

Others offered possible explanations. "Maybe the customer forgot to change the address after they moved. No clarify with customer?" one netizen asked, while another suggested it could have been a prank.

A few joked that it was their order and they placed the wrong address. "I stay 4-4 Depot lane la." one said.

"Nowadays ghost also use food delivery app," another quipped.
