# Grab passenger ‘extremely frightened’ when driver purportedly takes her on hour-long ride, tries to leave her at deserted bus stop at 1am

A Grab passenger who boarded her ride past midnight said she was taken on an hour-long journey in what she described as a “genuinely frightening” experience, with the driver purportedly taking multiple detours and asking her to alight at a deserted bus stop.

The passenger, Rose Anne Apostol-Del Rosario, told Stomp that the incident happened in the early hours of Oct 25.

The 33-year-old childcare teacher was travelling home from Circuit Road to Yishun at the time. Her friend had helped her book a Grab ride, which arrived at around 12.50am.

At first, everything seemed fine. She recounted how the driver was “friendly and talkative” and the pair even chatted and laughed together during the ride.

The driver initially headed towards Lentor Avenue, but encountered a closed road, according to Rosario. She said he then attempted a route along Upper Thomson Road, which was also closed, before heading towards the Seletar Bus Depot located in Yio Chu Kang.

## Driver purportedly takes multiple detours

In a TikTok post about the incident, Rosario recounted that it was already 1.30am by then.

“The night was hazy, cold, and eerily quiet,” she writes, adding that the driver had told her there was “no other way to get to Yishun”.

“Things became frightening when he repeatedly encountered closed roads and said there was no other way to get me home,” she told Stomp. “He even asked whether I had friends nearby whom I could stay with.”

Rosario’s friend, who had booked the Grab ride, noticed through the app that the car had diverted from the planned route and gave her a call.

She then told the driver to take her home. According to her account in the TikTok video, the driver agreed to try another route, but she realised he was heading in the same direction as before.

When she questioned him, he turned the car around and headed towards Mandai. On the way there, he said he would drop her off and stopped at a “dark, quiet, EMPTY” bus stop.

Rosario recounts telling him: “Uncle, I don’t know how to get home. You cannot leave me here!”

“I WAS SHAKING. It felt like I was literally inside a horror movie. The cold, the haze, the silence, the empty road… EVERYTHING WAS SO CREEPY,” she recalls.

## Passenger purportedly told not to contact friend

She claims that the driver then said he could try a different route, but requested that she pay extra.

Her friend, who was still on the phone with her, immediately contacted Grab Safety Centre.

When Grab called the driver, Rosario claims that he appeared tense and told her not to talk to her friend, saying that she was making the situation worse.

She adds that Grab staff kept calling the driver, but he ignored their calls and eventually said he would take the SLE and bring her home.

What was initially supposed to be a 26-minute journey took considerably longer, with the pair reaching the entrance to Rosario’s block at 2.15am.

“The moment I got out, I RAN,” she adds.

In response to Stomp’s queries, a Grab spokesperson said the company is looking into the matter.

## Passenger ‘especially uncomfortable’ with driver’s actions

Describing the experience as “genuinely frightening”, Rosario reflected that she felt “helpless” and it reminded her of how vulnerable passengers can feel when travelling alone late at night.

While she understood that road closures and unexpected detours could happen, she stressed that drivers should “communicate clearly, remain professional, and prioritise their passengers’ safety”.

She added that she was especially uncomfortable when the driver suggested leaving her at an isolated bus stop and later told her not to speak to her friend.

Rosario clarified that the support team from Grab contacted her on Oct 28 to apologise for her experience and asked her to provide more details about what had happened.

The company also assured her that it would support her regarding the incident, she said.

For others passengers who might find themselves in similar situations, Rosario advised them to remain cautious.

“If you ever feel unsafe during a ride, stay connected with someone you trust, share your trip details, and contact the platform’s safety team or emergency services if necessary,” she concludes in the video.
