# Ex-MP Amrin Amin dresses up as Foodpanda delivery rider for Halloween, drawing mixed reactions

*Former member of Parliament Amrin Amin, who dressed up as a food delivery rider for Halloween, has sparked online debate over his costume choice.*

A photo of former Member of Parliament Amrin Amin clad in a Foodpanda delivery rider uniform has drawn mixed reactions from netizens — with many showing support and criticising him in equal measure.

In a photo posted on Oct 31, Amrin shared a photo of himself wearing a helmet, a Foodpanda rider tee and navy pants, standing in front of a compound that has been decked out in assorted Halloween decorations.

Based on the accompanying caption and photos, the ex-MP had attended a Halloween street party at Chip Bee Gardens.

“Might switch to Grab if the benefits are better. Are they? 😜” he wrote cheekily. “Still waiting for my delivery backpack, so I’m clearly just playing the part.”

He ended his post in support of delivery riders, who “keep our orders coming, through heat, rain or haze”. Amrin urged the public to be more understanding if their riders are running late.

“Much respect,” he concluded.

## Reactions range from ‘distasteful’ to ‘I will give you tips’

His post has since gathered 700 likes and over 60 comments on Instagram and Facebook combined.

Netizens were split on his choice of apparel, with some noting that delivery rider uniforms are not meant to be Halloween costumes.

“Since when delivery uniform is costume or for cosplay?” questioned one Instagram user.

Another aligned with this sentiment, saying: “But that’s actually quite distasteful. It’s a daily ‘costume’ for many Singaporeans out there and here you’re treating it as a joke.”

One Facebook user said: “I believe there are more productive ways to show your appreciation to our hardworking platform workers without using their uniform as a costume.”

However, many commenters also leapt to Amrin’s defense, noting that the uniforms of many other professions are considered acceptable Halloween costumes.

“People dress up as nurses, police officers and firefighters for Halloween all the time, so why is dressing up as a food delivery rider suddenly considered distasteful?” argued one Instagrammer.

The user added that it would only be a problem if Amrin had deliberately mocked delivery riders — which he did not.

One joked: “I will give you tips if you send my orders to me 😂”

“Looks great! I admired your enthusiasm and involvement!” praised one Facebook user.
