# Elderly man allegedly shoves tray, throws food at diner, appears to slap phone away during confrontation 

*An elderly man allegedly threw food at a 19-year-old diner at a hawker centre before appearing to slap the younger man’s phone away when he started filming the confrontation.*

An elderly man allegedly threw food at a 19-year-old diner at a hawker centre before appearing to slap the younger man’s phone away when he started filming the confrontation.

The younger diner, who declined to be named, told Stomp that the incident happened at Anchorvale Village Hawker Centre — located in Sengkang — at 7.30pm on Oct 22.

He said he was eating alone at the hawker centre when the elderly man sat down opposite him without asking.

“He roughly pushed my tray towards me, and stared at me for two minutes. Then he started throwing food at me with his chopsticks,” the diner recalled.

In an Instagram post of the incident, an elderly man wearing a polo shirt is seen pointing towards the diner before getting up.

“What you want from me? What did I do?” the man behind the camera says.

The elderly man gestures with two fingers, saying something indistinct.

“No, you tell me, what you want? You come here, you throw food at me,” the diner says, panning the camera toward what appear to be food scraps on his seat.

## Elderly man appears to slap camera away

The elderly man raises a hand towards the camera, pressing against the diner’s hand as the latter brings it up, seemingly to defend himself. The diner then pushes the older man’s hand away, causing him to stumble backwards.

“If you want to go find trouble, you go find somewhere else,” the diner adds.

Undeterred, the elderly man raises his right hand toward the camera again and replies: “Stop pointing that camera at me ah.”

He then appears to slap the phone away as the clip ends.

The diner told Stomp that the confrontation continued for another 10 minutes after the video ended. Despite asking bystanders for help, no one stepped forward, and he eventually moved to another table.

He added that he made a police report after the incident and has never seen the elderly man before.

## Netizens criticise ‘entitled’ behaviour

The post garnered over 135,000 views and 335 comments, as netizens chimed in with their personal experiences at hawker centres.

One netizen recalled that an elderly diner had unexpectedly joined them for a meal. “I also just embraced the company,” the netizen said.

Several others called for greater respect in public spaces.

“Go and learn some basic mannerism dude,” one netizen said, while another called out the elderly man’s “entitled” behaviour.

One netizen speculated that the seat might have been the elderly man’s “usual spot”.

However, another Instagram user claimed to have had a similar encounter with the elderly man, alleging that he had approached her table while she and her family were eating, pushed their food away, and repeatedly shouted vulgarities in front of her children.

“Uncle too bored with life… so he disturb you lah,” one commented.

Stomp has reached out to the police for comment.
