A delivery driver who had been working for 13 hours was so exhausted that she crashed her van into a lorry before swerving into a tree, leaving five people injured.

Nur Huda Hussien, 38, was driving home to a warehouse with undelivered parcels when the accident happened along West Coast Road on Jan 16, 2025.

She was trying to return the parcels before 10pm to avoid being penalised for failing to complete her deliveries.

## Tired from 13 hour shift

According to Shin Min Daily News, Nur Huda was working as a delivery driver at the time and typically worked from 7am to 8pm.

On the day of the accident, three of her friends joined her in the van between 1pm and 2pm to accompany her on her delivery route.

By the evening, she had completed a batch of deliveries at Yunnan Crescent in Jurong West and was extremely tired.

However, she decided to continue driving to the warehouse near Pandan Avenue with the undelivered parcels, hoping to get there before the 10pm deadline and avoid a penalty.

At about 9.42pm, while switching lanes along West Coast Road towards West Coast Highway, she accelerated and rear-ended a lorry.

She then suddenly swerved to the left and crashed into a tree.

The accident left three of her friends in the van seriously injured.

A passenger in the lorry also suffered serious injuries, while another passenger sustained minor injuries.

The van, which belonged to a vehicle rental company, was damaged beyond repair.

The company subsequently made an insurance claim based on the van’s remaining value of $80,000. However, the payout was $30,000 below its original market value, leaving the company with a loss.

Nur Huda faced two charges of driving without due care and attention.

She pleaded guilty to one charge on Oct 30 and was sentenced to 10 days’ jail and disqualified from driving all classes of vehicles for five years.
