# Boy, 11, allegedly punched 20 times and hit with phone at Halloween party, returns home with swollen face

A Halloween party turned traumatic for an 11-year-old child, who was purportedly punched in the face 20 times by another child and hit on both sides of his face with a phone, leaving him with a swollen face and bruised nose.

The child’s mother, Calista, was alarmed upon learning about the alleged assault at the party, which took place at around 7.30pm on Oct 31.

In an Instagram post on Nov 2, the mother of three, who is in her late 30s, recounts that her son had been invited to a Halloween party by a schoolmate.

As she was caring for her infant at home, she booked a taxi for her son and sent him there alone — something she considered a “completely normal parenting decision” at the time.

She explains that he had been to many parties by himself and appeared to be fine.

But when her son returned home three and a half hours later, he told his mother that “something bad happened”.

According to Calista, her son said that another boy had attacked him.

She later told Stomp that the boy was the same age as her son, and that neither child was wearing a Halloween costume. The boy, who was a former neighbour of the party host, was not invited to the party but was there for dinner as his mother was unavailable to look after him.

“The boy had punched him in the face repeatedly, I think he estimated about 20 times, and then used the phone to hit both sides of his head. And nothing was done to provoke this action,” she recalls in the video.

She adds that the “attack was so sudden that he froze”, and he returned home feeling dizzy and lightheaded, with a swollen face and bruised nose.

## Child taken to hospital for injuries

Speaking to Stomp, Calista said her son had not retaliated because the other child was smaller in size.

As he related the incident to his mother, she recalled he appeared “a bit dazed”.

Upon realising the extent of his injuries, Calista was “very upset and worried”. She made a police report immediately and took him to the hospital.

In response to Stomp’s queries, the police confirm that a report was lodged and investigations are ongoing.

A follow-up appointment on Nov 3 revealed that her son had suffered a concussion, Calista added.

Reflecting on the incident, she questioned whether teaching children to behave responsibly could put them at a disadvantage, saying that they might end up getting hurt while the other party “get(s) away with hurting them just because it’s another kid”.

In her Instagram post, she also stressed that a child’s response to an assault does not determine its severity.

“If a child freezes during an assault, it doesn’t make the attack less serious. If he did not fight back, it definitely does not make him weak. And if he managed to come home before breaking down, it does not mean that he’s okay,” she says.
