# Farrer Park MRT male toilet revamped following Stomp coverage, with 1 row of urinals removed

When Stomp first reported on the design of the male toilet urinals at Farrer Park MRT station on Aug 28, it created quite a stir.

*The toilet previously appeared cramped, with two rows of urinals in close proximity of each other.*

Online debates and comments were aplenty, with other news outlets also picking up on the story.

Amid the media storm, SBS Transit, which manages the station, said it was “reviewing possible improvements to the layout”.

Turns out, it has since gone one step ahead and made changes to the entire washroom.

## ‘I thought it was AI’: Mr Toilet on the original toilet design

The initial report about the toilet design piqued the interest of Mr Jack Sim, the founder of the World Toilet Organization, who is also known as Mr Toilet.

He was so intrigued after seeing Stomp’s report that he decided to pay the toilet a visit himself. Sim told Stomp: “I couldn’t believe it. I thought it was AI, so I went down to see. I didn’t understand how architects could design something like this.”

Indeed, when he went there, Sim had similar reactions to Stomper Leon Hart, who first raised questions about the toilet’s design.

He wondered “which architect firm designed this” and “how BCA approved this”.

## Farrer Park MRT toilet looks different more than a month later

After the issue went viral, SBS Transit said it would “review possible improvements” and that “any works will need to be carefully planned”.

However, Sim noted that there was radio silence thereafter.

Realising that nearly two months had passed, he decided to check out the toilet again himself and went there on Oct 17.

To his surprise, the toilet looked completely different, with one row of urinals removed.

Modesty boards or dividers were also installed between the urinals for better privacy.

*There is now only one row of urinals instead of two.*

In his Facebook post sharing the update, Sim wrote: “Thanks to everyone’s effort producing a huge publicity over the Farrer Park MRT station toilets, the urinals in the Gents are now renovated with only 1 row of 4 urinals.”

He also expressed his contentment with the change to Stomp, saying: “This is an exercise of democracy. It proves that Singaporeans can create change just by voicing their opinions.”

Stomp has reached out to SBS Transit for comment.
