# ‘Don’t be a peeping Tom’: Warning sign appears at Oasis Terraces toilet after boy caught peeking

A warning sign against peeping has appeared on a toilet cubicle door at Oasis Terraces in Punggol, nearly three weeks after a Stomper caught a boy looking over the partition while he was using the toilet.

Stomper Z, who shared his encounter with Stomp on Oct 1, spotted the notice at about 8.05pm on Oct 20.

Taped to the door of the same cubicle where the incident occurred, the sign reads: “Don’t be a peeping Tom, you will be arrested!”

It features an illustration of someone peering over a toilet partition and the warning: “One wrong action, a lifetime of regret.”

The poster also bears the logos of the Singapore Police Force, National Crime Prevention Council and Tote Board, and states that voyeurism carries a jail term of up to two years, a fine, caning or a combination of these penalties.

Z told Stomp he was surprised to see the notice, which caught his eye as he passed the open cubicle.

As he was in a rush, he snapped a photo and left without checking whether similar signs had been put up elsewhere in the toilet.

Asked if he thought the notice was installed because of his earlier encounter, he replied: “Probably.”

## ‘A sign is just a sign’: Stomper doubts warning will deter peeping

However, he was sceptical about its effectiveness in deterring such behaviour.

“A sign is just a sign,” he said, pointing out that people continue to litter and jaywalk despite warning signs.

“If people are disobeying signs even when people are looking, the toilet would be a ‘better’ place for them to disobey the poster, especially since no one is watching,” he added.

## Earlier incident: Boy caught peeking over toilet cubicle

On Oct 1, Z was using a cubicle in the men’s toilet on the third floor of Oasis Terraces when he noticed a boy wearing spectacles peeking over the partition from the neighbouring cubicle.

He recorded a video of the boy looking down at him before disappearing from view.

Z said there were at least two children in the neighbouring cubicle and that he later overheard them saying: “Just take photo and run.”

The remark was not captured in the video, and Z did not know whether any photograph of him had been taken.

It is unclear who put up the poster or whether it was installed in response to the incident.

Stomp has contacted Oasis Terraces for more information.
