# Woman warns youths to stop ‘abuse of trolley’ at East Coast Park, told to ‘mind your own business’

A woman was irritated when she stumbled upon a group of at least five youths who were, in her words, ‘abusing’ a supermarket trolley at a skate park.

Stomper Jo was walking her dog at East Coast Park at around 8.30pm on Oct 16 when she passed Xtreme SkatePark, one of the largest local skate parks.

What she saw immediately frustrated her: a group of youths were loitering at the skate park and up to “mischief” with a supermarket trolley. She observed them for about 10 minutes before recording a video, which she shared with Stomp.

One of the boys, who was wearing a white top, can be seen clutching the trolley and charging down a slope and up the adjacent ramp.

He then pivots the trolley and returns to his friends, all the while tipping the trolley to balance on its rear wheels before crashing it down on its front wheels.

For a brief moment, the boy appears to look at the Stomper’s camera, making a taunting gesture at it before saying what sounds like: “You scared ah?”

The video ends as he jumps onto the base frame of the trolley.

Jo also shared a photo of the group that shows them seated on a park bench, with at least three scooters around them.

## Told to mind her own business

“At this point, I stopped them and told them nicely that the trolley belongs to (the supermarket) and should not be used in such an inconsiderate manner,” said Jo, stressing that she communicated with them patiently.

However, instead of heeding her advice, the youths shouted at her to “mind your own business”.

“I told them I will mind my own business if they did not vandalise,” the Stomper added.

As she began walking away, she thought the boys had stopped their “misdemeanour”. “But instead, (they) continued their antics and even taunted me by crashing the trolley several times,” she bemoaned.

As a nearby resident, Jo regularly sees park-goers using supermarket trolleys to bring food to the park’s barbecue pits. “It’s a perennial problem,” she explained.

However, what made this different was the boys’ “misuse and vandalism” of the trolley and their “lack of care and indifference” when called out.

“I feel that such inconsiderate behaviour is totally uncalled for (and) selfish,” Jo told Stomp, adding that she shared the incident as she hoped to highlight “societal issues”.

“It’s sad that our youth are lacking in such basic values... I cannot, in good conscience, see this happening in front of me and walk away.”

Jo confirmed that she has reported the trolley to the supermarket, which has informed her that they would send an employee down to collect it.
