# Woman allegedly elbows and shouts at commuter to ‘get lost’ from vacant bus seat beside her

*A woman elbowed a fellow passenger and repeatedly shouted at her to “get lost” from a vacant seat, said a Stomper who was travelling with her friend.*

A woman allegedly elbowed a fellow passenger and repeatedly shouted at her to “get lost” after she tried to sit in an empty seat beside her on a public bus.

The incident happened on Oct 31 after 5pm, according to Stomper JS, who was travelling with her friend JY.

JS told Stomp that they boarded bus service 163 in Sengkang West and were on board for 15 stops before alighting at the stop before Lentor MRT station.

At the time, the bus was almost full, with only one seat available. JY, who was feeling unwell, asked to sit there, but claimed she was immediately told by the woman dressed in blue not to sit beside her.

The woman — who JS described as “self-entitled” — also allegedly elbowed JY and refused to move her belongings, which took up part of the vacant seat.

JS said her friend sat on the edge of the seat and leaned back to minimise the impact when the woman continued elbowing her, while warning the woman that she could be reported for causing bodily injury.

JS said the woman continued to occupy part of JY’s seat with her elbow and would resume shouting at JY every few bus stops, telling her to “get lost” and sit elsewhere.

## Woman shouts at commuter: ‘This is not your seat’

In a video shared with Stomp, JY can be heard telling JS to record the incident in case any “injury” was inflicted by the woman in blue, who quickly responded: “Who’s hitting who?”

JY replies: “I’m not hitting anyone, I just want to sit here as is my right.”

The woman glares at JY and says firmly: “This is not your seat.”

JY retorts drily: “Is it your seat, then? Wow, one person taking two seats.”

At this point, the woman appears to mouth the Chinese word for “idiot” before turning to look out of the window.

JS clarified that she began recording after the woman purportedly elbowed her friend for the second time and told her to “get lost”.

She explained that she wanted to document what was happening because she felt every passenger had an equal right to use an available seat.

“The passenger had already occupied her own seat, but was insisting that another passenger should not take the seat next to her,” JS said.

“I felt that this was unfair and that a passenger should not be denied their rightful use of an available seat simply because another passenger did not want anyone sitting beside her.”

## Woman reportedly declines offer to go to police

About two stops before they were due to alight, JY suggested that they could all get off and go to the nearest police station to settle the matter.

“The blue lady just continued shouting while the rest of the passengers laughed,” recounted JS.

JS added that the bus captain appeared to look at them but did not intervene in the matter.

According to JS, two other passengers who got off at the same stop said that the woman in blue had been shouting at people who tried to sit beside her even before they boarded — which was why the seat had remained vacant despite the bus being crowded.

JS said she and her friend decided to share the incident because they felt no passenger should be able to claim an empty seat for themselves.

“We are an equal society,” she said.
