Woman, 37, charged with murder of man in Beach Road condo: 'It's actually manslaughter'

A 37-year-old woman was charged on May 9 with murder, which carries the death penalty.

Li Ye, who is a Chinese national, is accused of murdering Mr Lim Lai Guan, 56, at Citygate Residences condominium in Beach Road at around 1.30am on May 8, reported The Straits Times.

Addressing the court though a Mandarin interpreter, Li appeared via video link and said: “It’s actually manslaughter. I did not intend to murder this person.”

The police said they were alerted to a call for assistance assistance at a residential unit in Beach Road at about 2am on May 8.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Mr Lim was lying unconscious in the condo unit. He was taken to the hospital, where he subsequently died.

Li was arrested at the scene. A knife, believed to be used in the incident, was seized.

Both she and Mr Lim knew each other.

Police investigations are ongoing.
