She actually loved Singapore.

But US author Khanyisa Mnyaka ranked the Republic as the eighth most racist country she had been to and said it was the first country where she was called the N-word.

Her TikTok video of the top 10 most racist countries she has been to was reported by British media outlet Daily Mail on its website on Feb 15.

But South African-born Mnyaka, who had written a book called Travelling While Black And Lesbian, had posted her countdown much earlier - in 2021.

The first part of her countdown on TikTok where she mentioned Singapore has more than 1.6 million views.

Her top 10 most racist countries were:

  1. Australia
  2. USA
  3. South Africa
  4. Indonesia
  5. The Philippines
  6. Malaysia
  7. Costa Rica
  8. Singapore
  9. Hong Kong, China
  10. South Korea

Elaborating more on the 10 countries on YouTube, Mnyaka said she loved Singapore.

She explained: "The reason I put Singapore in No. 8 is because although there are hardly any black people in Singapore, there are things that Singaporeans said to me where I was like 'Wait, what?'

"And I understand that a lot of these countries that don't have a lot of black people, their connection with black people is through music and television, which is usually African-American culture.

"And so I've had people in Singapore say, 'Oh, you are a n***** from Africa.' They would just use that word and I was like 'Uh, you can't call me that.' They would say 'Why? In the movies, it's okay. I can call you that because of the movies.'

"I was usually always educating people in Singapore and and it didn't feel malicious, but it was just quite uncomfortable to be called a 'n*****', you know - the N-word."
