# Traveller panics after missing Scoot flight that purportedly departed 2hr 50min early

*It is a traveller's nightmare. *

Update on Dec 19:

Flight that Stomper missed had departed 1½ hours early 'due to operational reasons': Scoot

Orginal article:

It is a traveller's nightmare.

You get to the airport only to discover your flight has departed without you.

That was what happened to Stomper M.

"Have you ever had a flight take off 2 hours 50 minutes before the scheduled time?" he asked rhetorically.

"Scoot TR456 did just that on Nov 1, 2024."

He said the budget carrier had not offered an explanation as to what went wrong.

"This is what happened on Nov 1, 2024," said the Stomper, who had booked his flight from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur on Trip.com.

The flight was scheduled to depart from Changi Airport at 4.50am that morning.

"I constantly checked on the departure time using the SG Flight Info app. It remained at 4.50am. Upon reaching the departure gate, it was empty.

"I panicked as there was no one there to explain to me what happened. It was early before dawn of the day. There was very little arrival and departure activity at the Terminal 1 departure gates.

"I had to run to the nearest departure gate that was open to seek for help."

The Stomper said he was directed to a counter at Terminal 3.

"The Scoot ground staff apologised to us and stated that he did not know how it happened too. He took down our names, telephone numbers and email addresses and told us Scoot would compensate us with $150.

"Although Scoot transferred us to SQ104 which departed 2 hours 15 minutes later, I could not catch up my connecting flight or continue my journey with the subsequent three sectors. I had to purchase additional three air tickets for these three sectors."

A sector refers a single flight leg from one runway to another.

Because of the additional expenses due to the missed connections after missing the Scoot flight, the Stomper wanted compensation from the airline.

He said: "Scoot refused to compensate me for all the four sectors after three phone calls to Scoot customer service centre, hours of explanation and two emails attaching all my expenses.

"Scoot claimed that it would compensate me for the first sector in the form of a $150 Scoot voucher, different from the $150 promised. The voucher is useless to me because I will not take Scoot after this incident, at least for the near future. Even so, a month later now, I have not received the Scoot voucher."

The Stomper has questions as well: "Why did TR456 take off 2 hours 50 minutes earlier? How did it get the control tower's clearance? With no passengers? With no other air crew member?"

A screenshot of the iChangi app, which was not used by the Stomper, shows that the departure time of TR456 on Nov 1 had changed from 4.50am to 2am.

But according to the FlightAware website, the plane left the gate at 3.39am.

On most other days, the plane would take off closer to 5am.

It is noteworthy that on most other days, the TR456 aircraft was the Airbus A320 whereas on that day, it was a different plane, a Boeing 787-8.
