A mattress was seen lying across the steps of the 11th-floor staircase at Block 233 Lorong 8 Toa Payoh on Feb 16, at around 4pm.

Instead of being cleared, a second mattress appeared in front of it the following day on Feb 17, at about 9pm.

Stomper Manny says this is unfortunately an all too common sight.

He told Stomp: "This is a very common scene on this floor. It's usually used mattresses, household items, bicycles, empty shopping boxes and the like.

'This is a serious fire hazard risk and the town council has not taken any action despite repeated emails and complaints. I requested them to take serious action but they just stopped responding to my emails.

"I'm sick and tired of passing by dirty and cluttered walkways when going to and fro home. Does the bulky waste have to catch fire and kill someone before anyone will take this persistent issue seriously?"

Manny suggested installing CCTV cameras to catch the culprits responsible and issuing them with a fine.

Stomp has contacted Bishan-Toa Payoh Town Council for more info.
