A 19-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly recruiting students to register SIM cards using their personal details and supplying them to scam syndicates in exchange for cash.

Between April 10 and 15, the police received several reports from students who said they had been approached to hand over SIM cards registered under their names in return for money.

Officers from the Anti-Scam Command identified the suspect through follow-up investigations arrested him.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had engaged several students between November 2024 and February 2025 to register multiple SIM cards at various retailers using their personal information.

After the students completed the registrations, he would collect the SIM cards and pay them.

The man will be charged in court on April 17 for supplying SIM cards registered using other people's information for criminal activity.

The offence carries a jail term of up to three years, a fine of up to $10,000, or both.

The police said they take a serious view of such offences and will not hesitate to act against individuals who misuse their SIM or eSIM cards. This includes reselling, allowing others to use their SIM cards, helping others to register SIM cards, or holding multiple cards without a valid reason.
