SFA takes action against Dapur Ambeng over unregistered food handler after Stomper's tip-off
The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has taken enforcement action against F&B establishment Dapur Ambeng for failure to register their food handler following feedback from a Stomper.
Dapur Ambeng is a food stand that serves nasi ambeng, a traditional Javanese sharing platter of rice and other dishes, as well as various snacks.
They had recently set up shop at Gemilang Kampong Gelam Ramadan Bazaar in the Kampong Glam neighbourhood and Absolut Bazaar at Singapore Expo.
In March, Stomper Anonymous alleged that there were workers without proper permits at two Dapur Ambeng booths, along Kandahar Street in Kampong Glam and outside Yishun MRT station.
He also explained to Stomp how he learnt of the alleged offence.
Anonymous lodged a report with SFA on March 11 and told Stomp: "Dapur Ambeng is using Malaysian workers who are handling food without proper permits.
"SFA always comes to check but someone would have tipped them off and the workers will quickly leave the stall."
In response to a Stomp query, SFA said on April 4 that it had inspected the food establishment and taken enforcement action against the licensee for failure to register their food handler.
"SFA-licensed establishments are required to ensure their food handlers are registered before engaging in food preparation," the agency added.
"Food safety is a joint responsibility. While SFA puts in place and enforces the regulatory measures, food operators must play their part by adhering to good food hygiene and preparation practices. Food operators should also ensure their premises are clean and well-maintained."
Members of the public who have concerns about food safety practices by food operators should report to SFA via its online feedback form.
SFA said it takes a serious view towards food safety and will investigate all feedback alleging poor food safety practices.
As part of the enquiry and gathering of evidence, the agency may engage the feedback provider for more details and will not hesitate to take enforcement action if sufficient evidence has been obtained.
Stomp has contacted Dapur Ambeng for more info.
