When SBS Transit bus driver Lee Chee Chong, 53, stopped at a traffic light on Tampines Expressway, he spotted a peculiar sight: a young boy, alone, walking on the road.

Lee saw the primary school student walking directly on the slip road, and without hesitation, rushed out of his bus to bring the boy onboard.

He then brought the child back to Bedok Bus Interchange, passing him over to staff who recognised the boy's uniform and quickly called his school.

Soon after, the primary school's vice principal and a teacher arrived at the interchange and took him back to school, where he was eventually reunited with his parents.

In a Facebook post by SBS Transit, Lee recalled: "I was shocked to see him on the main road by himself! I knew it was very dangerous, so my first reaction was to ensure his safety."

SBS Transit praised Lee, saying: "What began as a routine morning commute turned into a successful rescue, highlighting how everyday heroes like bus captains can make a world of difference."
