Rat in Giant Hypermart an 'isolated incident', pest control inspections increased: Retailer
A rat was spotted in Giant Hypermart Tampines on June 18.
Stomper Peter shared a video of the rodent scurrying on the white-tiled floor in the toilet paper aisle at 8.23am.
"The picture speaks for itself," said the Stomper.
In response to a Stomp query, a spokesperson for DFI, which manages the Giant supermarket chain, said: "Upon being made aware of this issue, we immediately conducted a thorough sanitation of the area."
The spokesperson added that the retail group has always had a robust pest control programme in place where its contractors regularly inspect its stores.
"Following this isolated incident, we have increased the frequency of pest control inspections and working closely with the pest control provider to address on the issue.
"Please be assured that we are taking all possible measures to avoid incidents of this nature in the future."
In a Channel NewsAsia report on June 4, an informal survey found that Tampines was one of the top three rat hotspots. First on the list was Toa Payoh and the third town was Hougang.
