A cyclist stopped a bus from moving off from a bus stop after using his bicycle to block the vehicle.

The incident happened at a bus stop along Hougang Avenue 10 on the afternoon of Jan 6.

Stomper Michael alerted Stomp to a video of the incident which has been circulating on social media.

In the clip, the cyclist, who is dressed in blue and wearing a yellow helmet, walks away from his bicycle and stands in front of the bus's front door with his arms akimbo.

A green GrabFood bag is mounted on the back of the man's bike.

He remains standing and staring at the bus driver until the end of the 26-second clip.

In response to a Stomp query, SBS Transit spokesperson Mrs Grace Wu told Stomp that a Service 87 bus was at the bus stop when a cyclist approached the bus captain.

"As our bus could not move off from the bus stop safely, our Operations Control Centre contacted the police which responded to and resolved the situation."

A TikTok user provided their own 'unbiased perspective' of what happened.

"I was standing near the front of the bus when the incident happened at Hougang," said @singaporebuildings.

"While the bus driver was navigating, I noticed he seemed to be driving faster than usual -- it was harder to balance while standing.

"At one point, he was also driving quite closely to a Grab driver near a traffic junction and bus stop."

The TikTok user said that was when the Grab rider caught up with the bus and decided to block it with his bicycle.

He then signalled for the bus driver to step out and started accusing him of driving recklessly.

"This standoff lasted for a while, forcing all of us to alight and wait for another Bus 87 to arrive."

According to the TikTok user, the situation was frustrating for everyone involved.

"In my opinion, both parties were at fault here," they said.

"The bus driver should have practised more defensive driving, while the Grab driver had no right to block the bus and inconvenience everyone else.

"Two wrongs don't make a right."

In addition, they described it as a 'lose-lose-lose situation' because they had to pay the bus fare twice.

In November 2024, Stomp reported on a similar incident where a cyclist used his bicycle to prevent a bus from moving off.
