Police alerted after woman receives harassing messages and videos of her Ang Mo Kio flat from man
The police were alerted on Feb 13 after a woman received harassing messages and videos of her flat at Ang Mo Kio Street 31.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras and CCTV, officers from Ang Mo Kio Division established the identity of a 52-year-old man and arrested him on the same day.
Preliminary investigations revealed that he had assisted loansharks to take videos of the flat, which was then used by them to harass the debtor.
The man is also allegedly involved in other similar cases of assisting with unlicensed moneylending business.
He was to be charged in court on Feb 15 under the Moneylenders Act 2008.
For first-time offenders, the offence of assisting with unlicensed moneylending business carries a fine between $30,000 and $300,000, imprisonment of up to four years and caning of up to six strokes.
For repeat offenders, the offence carries a fine between $30,000 and $300,000, imprisonment of up to seven years, and caning of up to 12 strokes.
