Oblivious to danger? Youths ride e-bikes and bicycles without helmets in middle of Jurong West road
Four youths were seen cycling in the middle of the road along Jurong West Avenue 1.
Stomper Maysa shared a video of the incident, which occurred on Feb 26 at around 5pm.
In the video, one youth can be seen riding a bicycle with three other riders behind. Of the trio, one is on a bicycle while the other two are riding e-bikes.
None are wearing helmets.
Maysa said this was not the first time he had encountered the group.
The Stomper had seen them riding dangerously on the road at least twice before, which prompted him to record the incident.
He added that there were "maybe more friends they invite" each time, but there are "usually three of them".
"These kids don't understand the danger of riding on the road like that," Maysa said, noting that "lorry drivers or bigger trucks might not see them".
According to the Land Transport Authority (LTA), power-assisted bikes (PABs) and bicycles are allowed on the road and must adhere to the speed limit.
However, riders are required to wear helmets while on the road.
Cyclists should also keep to the left of the lane, with a maximum of two cyclists abreast of each other.
More information can be found in LTA's road safety handbook.
