# Merc driver, 33, arrested for suspected drug offences after car crashes into lamppost in Geylang

A 33-year-old driver was arrested for suspected drug-related offences and driving under the influence of drugs following an accident along Guillemard Road in Geylang on Oct 20.

Police told Stomp that they were alerted at about 3.15pm to an accident involving a car believed to have self-skidded along Guillemard Road towards Nicoll Highway.

Stomper Raven, who passed by the scene on bus service 197 about an hour later, was shocked to see a badly damaged white car on the pavement and a tilted lamppost. According to him, the vehicle was a Mercedes-Benz.

Police officers were at the scene, which had been cordoned off.

“I was shocked to see what appeared to be a car that had crashed onto the pedestrian footpath and knocked down a lamppost,” Raven told Stomp.

He managed to capture a brief video as the bus passed the scene.

The footage shows the white car on a grass verge near the lamppost, with police officers nearby.

Photos shared by SGRV FRONT MAN show significant damage to the car’s front bumper and bonnet, as well as debris scattered near the base of the tilted lamppost.

Raven expressed concern about the potential danger to pedestrians and cyclists.

“I couldn’t imagine what would have happened if someone had been walking or cycling there at the time,” he said.

“A vaporiser, a pod, substances believed to be controlled drugs and drug paraphernalia were found in the car,” a police spokesperson said.

The vaporiser-related offence has been referred to the Health Sciences Authority, while the suspected drug-related offences have been referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau.

Investigations are ongoing.
