Man who contacted girl for commercial sex to be charged with 8 counts of sexual penetration of minor under 16
A 25-year-old man will be charged on May 23 with eight counts of sexual penetration of a minor under 16.
He had allegedly contacted the minor online and subsequently performed penetrative sexual acts on her, said the police.
He was arrested by the Specialised Crime Branch of the Criminal Investigation Department on July 5, 2024, for engaging the girl for commercial sex.
He is one of six men to be charged in court on the same day for their alleged involvement in separate cases of child sexual exploitation.
Another man, 37, is also accused of engaging a young female victim for commercial sex. He had befriended the minor online and subsequently performed sexual acts on her.
He was arrested on March 25, 2025, and will be charged with one count of commercial sex with a minor under 18 and one count of communicating with a minor under 18 for the purpose of obtaining sexual services.
Four other men, aged 22 to 41, were each charged with one count of possession of child abuse material. The 22-year-old man was handed an additional charge of possession of obscene films.
Any person who has in possession or has gained access to child abuse material, and knows or has reason to believe that the material is child abuse material shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term of up to five years and shall also be liable to a fine or caning.
Any person who has in his or her possession any obscene film shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $20,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to both.
Any person who commits sexual penetration of a minor above 14 years of age but below 16 years of age shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term of up to 10 years, and shall also be liable to a fine or caning.
Any person who obtains for consideration the sexual services of a person who is below 18 years of age shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term of up to seven years, a fine or both.
