Man violently whips girlfriend with cane after being accused of cheating, jailed 10 days
Suspecting he was cheating, a woman questioned her boyfriend about his alleged infidelity.
The man retaliated by whipping her with a cane, inflicting multiple injuries over her body.
On March 7, the 36-year-old security manager pleaded guilty to one count of voluntarily causing hurt and was sentenced to 10 days in jail, reported Shin Min Daily News.
The accused was in a romantic relationship with the 25-year-old victim at the time of the incident. They had met on a dating app in August 2022 and the victim moved in with the accused two months later.
The victim soon suspected her boyfriend was cheating and confronted him about it in his room on Oct 18, at around 9am, while he was resting in bed after finishing his night shift.
The couple began to argue and the victim requested the accused to delete her photos, but he refused.
As she continued questioning him, the accused became increasingly agitated. He grabbed a black box containing a cane, which he used to whip the victim's face, arms and other parts of her body.
Crying, the victim continued demanding that the accused delete her photos, while also recording a video of her ordeal.
The accused ignored the victim's pleas and continued to whip her with the rattan stick. He eventually stopped and showed the victim his phone, saying he had deleted her photos.
The victim packed her belongings and returned to Malaysia at 1pm on the same day.
She returned to Singapore the following day and called the police.
Upon noticing the victim's injuries, the police called her an ambulance and she was taken to hospital.
The victim sustained abrasions and bruises on her face, lips, arms, shoulders, wrists and left elbow. She was discharged on the same day and given three days of medical leave.
The court granted the accused's request to defer his sentence by one week.
