A 56-year-old man was arrested after he was found armed with a knife at the Textile Centre at Jalan Sultan on Oct 8.

Stomper Jane alerted Stomp to a video of the arrest that has been circulating on WhatsApp showing the man, wearing just his underwear, being confronted by police officers.

He appears to be holding a knife in his right hand and waving it.

The police shout at him to drop the weapon which he places on a nearby counter.

He is then told to get down before the officers put him in handcuffs.

Some bystanders are heard talking about how the man is frequently seen at the centre.

"Sometimes he will sit down and talk to himself," one man says.

In response to a Stomp query, the police said they received a call for assistance at 200 Jalan Sultan at about 3.50pm.

"When police officers arrived, a 56-year-old man was found to have armed himself with a knife at the said location," a police spokesperson said.

"He was arrested for possession of an offensive weapon."

The man was conscious when taken to hospital for an injury that is believed to have been self-inflicted.

Police investigations are ongoing.
