Snatch theft in Toa Payoh: Man allegedly steals elderly woman's bag containing 5 phones and router
A 30-year-old man was arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of snatch theft involving an elderly woman.
On April 24 at about 1.40am, the police were alerted to a case of snatch theft along Toa Payoh Rise.
A 78-year-old female victim's sling bag containing items valued at approximately $3,000 was purportedly snatched by an unknown man.
Inside the bag were five handphones, a portable Wi-Fi router, an EZ-Link card and other miscellaneous items.
Through further investigations, the man was arrested the same day.
The offence carries a jail term of between one and seven years, and caning.
Members of the public who encounter such cases of snatch theft are advised to remain calm, take note of the physical appearance and distinctive features of the perpetrator, and call the police as soon as possible.
