A 19-year-old male youth has been arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.

White paint had been splashed on a door and gate of a residential unit at Jurong West Street 64, fully covering a large portion of the door, the police said in a statement.

The police were alerted to the case on March 10 at about 2.40pm.

Writings in black ink were also observed, alongside the white paint.

The youth's identity was eventually discovered upon further investigation and he was arrested on March 13.

Investigations also reveal he is allegedly involved in another similar case of loanshark harassment.

The young man will be charged in court on March 15.

For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, with up to five years' jail and up to six strokes of the cane.

The police said they have "zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities" and that perpetrators "will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law".

Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not work with or assist them in any way.

The public can call '999' if they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in loansharking activities.
