'Safety never ends': Lorry topples over in Jurong, another accident on wettest February day on record
Does a rainy day mean more accidents?
A lorry was turned on its side at the junction of Buroh Drive and Jalan Terusan in Jurong on Tuesday (Feb 28).
Stomper Lim shared a video of the toppled vehicle with police, a tow truck and a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) ambulance at the scene.
The words "Safety never ends" can be seen on the back of the lorry.
In response to a Stomp query, SCDF said it was alerted to the road traffic accident at 2.30pm, adding that its assistance was not required.
Stomp understands that the lorry driver was not injured.
This is the sixth vehicular mishap Stomp has reported that happened on the same day.
The other five were:
- SCDF rescues driver trapped in car turned on its side after early morning accident in Pasir Ris
- SBS Transit bus and NUS shuttle bus collide on campus, 1 driver and 2 passengers taken to hospital
- Bus driver trapped in seat after collision with trailer truck on SLE, 8 passengers taken to hospital
- Car passenger, rider hurt in accident involving Mazda, motorcycle and minibus in Tampines
- Private-hire car stranded at Upper Bukit Timah condo pool: 'Jokes aside, hope the driver is fine'
Perhaps not coincidentally, Feb 28 was also the wettest February day on record, according to the National Environment Agency.
The agency said: "The monsoon surge brought widespread continuous moderate to heavy thundery showers over Singapore and the surrounding region with all stations across the island recording more than 100mm of rainfall.
"The rain was heaviest over the eastern and southern parts of Singapore with the highest daily total rainfall of 225.5mm recorded at Kallang.
"This was the highest daily total rainfall ever recorded in February, exceeding the previous record of 159.3mm on Feb 4, 1995."
Could the record-breaking wet weather have contributed to the number of accidents on Tuesday?
