Jurong West resident praises public for extinguishing bin fire before SCDF arrival
A resident has sung praises for three people who extinguished a bin fire at Block 704 Jurong West Street 71 before firefighters arrived on site.
Stomper X said the incident occurred on March 23 at around 2.30pm, while he was on his way home.
“A 660-litre bin was on fire, and put out by two teenagers and one man before the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and police arrived,” he recounted.
X, who is a resident at the block, said the fire had already been extinguished by the time he was on the scene, though he saw smoke emanating from the spot where the fire had been.
“Kudos to those three guys,” praised the Stomper, who noted that fire safety is a collective responsibility.
In response to Stomp’s queries, the SCDF said that it was alerted to the fire at 2.40pm.
“The fire involved the discarded items in a bin on the ground floor,” said the SCDF.
“Members of the public extinguished the fire using a fire extinguisher and a hose reel prior to SCDF’s arrival.”
There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
