'Huge' rats crawl on cartons of fresh eggs in Joo Koon MRT station food shop
A Stomper was horrified to see large rats climbing on cartons of fresh eggs at a food shop in Joo Koon MRT station on two separate occasions.
Stomper Jamie told Stomp she first noticed the rodents on Sept 22 and snapped a photo.
When she returned on Sept 26 at about 6.08pm, she recorded a video showing another rat in the same spot.
"I'm just shocked that the rats are so huge!" she said.
"I haven't bought food from this place, but it's worrying to see them running about while containers are left out in the open.
"I wonder if it is safe."
Jamie has since reported the matter to the Singapore Food Agency (SFA).
In response to a Stomp query, an SFA spokesperson said it is investigating.
The spokesperson added: "Food safety is a joint responsibility. While SFA puts in place and enforces the regulatory measures, food operators must play their part by adhering to good food hygiene and preparation practices. Food operators should also ensure their premises are clean and well-maintained.
"Members of the public who have concerns about food safety practices by food operators should report to SFA via the online feedback form.
"SFA takes a serious view towards food safety and will investigate all feedback alleging poor food safety practices.
"As part of the enquiry and gathering of evidence, SFA may engage the feedback provider for more details and will not hesitate to take enforcement action if sufficient evidence has been obtained."
