Food stall at Kranji workers' dorm suspended 2 weeks, fined $1,400 for offences including infestation
The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) is suspending the licence of Obayed Holdings at Kranji Lodge 1 workers' dormitory's first storey for two weeks from Dec 10 to 23.
The food stall accumulated 12 demerit points within a 12-month period and was fined a total of $1,400 for failing to keep its premises free of infestation and failing to register an assistant.
All food handlers working in the suspended premises would also be required to re-attend and pass the Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) Food Safety Course Level 1, before they can resume work as food handlers.
The licensee is also required to ensure that all food hygiene officers working in the suspended premises, if any, re-attend and pass the WSQ Food Safety Course Level 3.
SFA added that food business operators should observe good food and personal hygiene practices at all times. This includes engaging only registered food handlers and ensuring upkeep and maintenance of licensed premises, including toilets within.

In Dec 2019, Obayed Holdings' central kitchen at Food Xchange @ Admiralty was fined $6,000 after it found to have several hygiene lapses during routine inspections by SFA.
These lapses include widespread cockroach infestation on the premises, structural damages such as cracked floor tiles in the cooking room as well as poor housekeeping which resulted in the presence of houseflies and ants in the cutting room.
The food safety inspectors also found dead cockroaches in pots and cockroach eggs on a stove.
Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority record shows that Obayed Holdings, which is wholly owned by Bangladeshi national Obaidur Rahman, has a paid-up capital of $250,000 and it has been operating since 2008.
Formerly known as Obayed Restaurant and Catering, it supplies food to the construction industry.
